As a designer for this expanding construction company based in London you will assist the preconstruction team to provide advice at tender stage, complete works assigned to you on projects and co-ordinate with other team members to progress design works through to RIBA Stages 1-7.

You will be responsible for ensuring a positive company image is portrayed at all times to clients and stakeholders and strive to win new business and increase repeat business. You must have strong attention to detail and communication skills to ensure all works are delivered on time, within budget and to the client requirements.

Duties & Responsibilities of the Designer:

  • Carry out design works on projects designated to you to ensure full compliance with Company and client Design protocols. Minimising as far as reasonably practicable rejection of design due to Quality standards
  • Input into the Design Team, as required, to ensure designs are issued in line with agreed programme and timescales on projects you are working on and as far as reasonably practicable designs are to reach approved Construction status prior to commencement of works on site and in time for other departments within the Group to achieve their designated deadlines.
  • Report to the Management Team within the business to enable work load to be effectively managed including reporting on activities of External Consultants working on your projects.
  • Identification, development and subsequent management of Design risks on your projects to minimise risk to the business
  • Provide input at Tender stage to Estimating, Operations and Bid Management in relation to design methodology, resources and timescales to enable a compliant bid to be submitted
  • Manage the production of the Contractors Proposals, ensuring they are complete and accurate
  • Obtain or advise on statutory authorities' connections and possible issues
  • Responsibility for the development of a design preconstruction programme for submission as part of a tender return.
  • Consider and identify potential problems, record for reference. Ensure communication of such issues to the project team in line with Company procedures
  • Read and comment on written submission, provide Contractors Proposals documentation where required

What you will need to succeed as a Designer:

KNOWLEDGE

  • Understanding of the use of Microsoft Office Packages -Excel, Word
  • Use of an EDMS
  • External structures and finishes
  • Possess excellent organisational skills
  • Excellent health & safety knowledge/awareness
  • CDM
  • BIM and the industry standards
  • Commercial Awareness
  • AutoCAD knowledge and proficiency

EXPERIENCE

  • Experience of managing and prioritising own workload whilst working under pressure
  • Experience of project set-up, management and coordination
  • Experience of managing and coordinating the work of others
  • Undertaken a similar role within the construction industry
  • Minimum of 2 Years within the roofing industry
  • Minimum of 2 Years in a Design role
  • Awareness of BIM use in Construction
