About the role

Location

: Community based Dementia Adviser in Greater Manchester with some homeworking elements.

The Dementia Adviser role requires you to work passionately to provide advice, support and guidance to people affected by dementia, carers and their families. Team Sahara at The Alzheimer's Society are proud to have a small but passionate team with a welcoming and supportive culture.

We are a Dementia Support Service dedicated to serving the South Asian Community in Greater Manchester. This role will be supporting the South Asian community within the Greater Manchester area, so we are looking for someone who is fluent in South Asian languages including Urdu, Punjabi, Hindi and in particular Bengali or Gujarati as well as English.

You will:

  • Offer a vital and compassionate service providing information, a referral and signpost service as well as emotional and practical support to people affected by dementia and their families.
  • Manage referrals and case loads.
  • Support our Memory Café and other group activities.
  • Facilitate information and awareness raising events.
  • Deliver talks and presentations to public audiences.
  • Build relationships with a range of local contacts, networking with health and care professionals, marketing Alzheimer's Society services and providing dementia support.

About you

We are hoping to welcome a passionate and knowledgeable Dementia Adviser to work in Greater Manchester as part of Team Sahara but also as part of the wider Greater Manchester team.

You will:

  • Be someone who has working experience of assessing people face to face with an ability to assess their needs.
  • Deliver advice and guidance with a non-judgmental approach and have outstanding communication skills.
  • Have strong organisational and time management skills to manage your caseload of clients effectively.
  • Possess good IT skills.
  • Have the means to travel independently across Greater Manchester, with an expectancy to attend regular meetings across the area.
  • Have an understanding of dementia and the needs of those living with dementia and their carers would be an advantage.
  • Be fluent in Urdu and English as well as Bengali or Gujarati and other South Asian languages.
  • Possess confidence in public speaking and ability to deliver presentations in different languages if necessary.
