We are seeking a dedicated HR Assistant to join a dynamic team committed to transforming train travel into a greener, cleaner, and more comfortable experience. This role is essential in delivering professional and effective first-line HR services to colleagues and managers, supporting people interventions, and maintaining high levels of customer service within the HR department.

Day to Day of the role:

  • Maintain up-to-date and accurate HR records using the HRIS for the entire employee lifecycle.
  • Provide first-line practical advice and guidance on HR policies and procedures to managers and colleagues, escalating complex issues as necessary.
  • Coordinate employee relations casework, including disciplinary, grievance, and performance-related matters.
  • Collaborate with the Talent Acquisition Partner to ensure effective onboarding of new hires, including contract accuracy and completion of all necessary checks.
  • Confirm and record contract changes throughout the employee lifecycle, escalating when appropriate.
  • Support Occupational Health referrals and ensure GDPR compliance in record-keeping.
  • Monitor probation periods, fixed-term contracts, and visa expirations, alerting managers to ensure due process and compliance.
  • Maintain confidentiality and undertake ad hoc HR administrative tasks as requested.

Required Skills & Qualifications:

  • Knowledge of GDPR and secure management of colleague information.
  • Understanding of employment law.
  • Competency in MS Word, Excel, Outlook, and preferably an HRIS.
  • Organised with excellent attention to detail.
  • Effective communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Self-motivated with the ability to use initiative.
  • Good team player, flexible, confident, with an enthusiastic and positive approach to stakeholder relationships.
  • Experience in a service delivery centre, preferably within an HR environment.
  • Proficiency in using HR & Payroll systems for data entry/employee management.

Qualifications:

  • Level 2 Maths and English desirable or willingness to work towards.
  • Level 3 CIPD or desire to study to achieve this.
