Service Technician

Our client is currently seeking a Laser Repair Technician for an initial 6-month contract, with the possibility of extension due to expected continued business expansion. The role involves investigating, repairing, and testing customer lasers that have been returned. This position requires strong problem-solving skills and technical expertise in lasers and related equipment.

Role Overview:

The Laser Repair Technician will be responsible for fault finding, diagnostics, and repair of returned lasers. This includes both in-warranty and out-of-warranty products. The role also involves operating various test equipment, maintaining documentation, and ensuring a tidy work environment.

Key Areas of Responsibility:

  • Booking and Documentation:

  • Booking in returned lasers.

  • Completing necessary documentation and daily use of Sunrise and other IT systems.

  • Fault Finding and Diagnostics:

  • Performing fault finding and diagnostics on returned lasers using existing tools and methods.

  • Operating test equipment and recording results on Sunrise and other IT systems.

  • Identifying and ordering spare parts as required.

  • Repair and Maintenance:

  • Carrying out necessary repairs following repair instructions.

  • Operating splice equipment.

  • Rejecting spare parts into the NCM system and liaising with the quality team.

  • Ensuring the work area is kept tidy and well-maintained.

  • Continuous Improvement:

  • Working as part of a multi-skilled team to evaluate and apply best practices.

  • Removing waste, improving quality, and increasing capacity where needed.

Required Experience:

  • Essential:

  • Strong problem-solving background.

  • IT literate with strong knowledge of Excel and Word.

  • Experience using splice equipment (e.g., cleaver, stripper).

  • Working knowledge of fibre lasers.

  • Preferable:

  • Experience in electronics, lasers, or fibre optics.

  • Experience using test equipment such as oscilloscopes, power meters, and DVMs.

Qualifications:

  • ONC or equivalent in a suitable engineering or science discipline, or equivalent experience and alternative technical qualifications.

Contract Details:

  • Duration: Initial 6 months with strong likelihood for extension.
  • Pay Rate: £12.20 per hour initially for basic hours, increasing to £12.50 per hour.
