Join one of the largest steel stockholders in the Uk to play a vital role in the Health and Safety Team in protecting employees in the workplace, as well as those affected by their work.
This company holds close to 35,000 tonnes of steel between two sites, offering a nationwide service delivering steel.
Up to £49k per annum depending on experience
Night shifts - 40 hours per week

Experience advised:

  • Experience of management systems to ISO 45001, 14001 would be advantageous
  • Excellent knowledge of health and safety legislation with the ability to put said knowledge into practice in an operational manner
  • Ideally 3 years-experience within this or similar manufacturing industry

Key Qualifications and skills needed for this role:

  • NEBOSH General Certificate as a minimum, diploma preferred
  • IEMA or other suitable environmental qualification desirable
  • ISO 45001, 14001 or similar auditing qualification desirable
  • Be able to work autonomously as well as part of a team using own initiative as and when required.
  • Have excellent communication and people management skills. Be able to organise and plan workload of yourself and others as and when required.
  • Full UK drivers licence - no public transport in area.

Key responsibilities within this role:

  • Spending 50/50 time in office and works, you will use your expert knowledge and experience to control risks at work and ensure the company meets current safety standards and legal requirements.
  • Communicating effectively across all levels of the Company in delivering the health and safety message.
  • You will be instrumental in the planning, production and implementation of new policies, procedures, strategies and safe systems of work to raise or maintain safety standards.
  • You will monitor and review both written and operational works to ensure their effectiveness and compliance.
  • Following consultations you will implement new protective and preventative measures as required by law or by the company in achieving best practice.
  • Reviewing activities that are going on, and make sure they are being followed by risk assessment and safe systems, or writing and communicating them.
  • Training of new employees and existing employees, holding and carrying out inductions, fire training, and manual handing, abrasive wheel training, overseeing of training plans, booking combi courses, reviewing shot blaster and saw training, writing and carrying out toolbox talks.
  • Anything that is involved in the ISO14001 management systems, writing policies on how we write risk assessments and do our training and evacuation procedures.
  • Accident and interview reviews, investigating them and looking at control reports, near misses, observations, looking for trends, writing up accident reports.
  • Spending a lot of time out in the works communicating and working with people, seeing what they are doing and if they are happy or if there is a better or alternative way of doing something.
