Design Manager

Our client is based in Burntwood - Staffordshire are looking for a Design Manager to complement our existing team. The Company is one of the leading manufacturers of industrial ovens, spray booths and steelwork fabrications primarily for automotive, aerospace and general industries.

Role Overview:

Reporting directly to the General Manager, this role is responsible for overseeing and working with the current design team to design and detail drawings to issue to the CNC programmers and production facilities. Our business is varied and involves, conveyors, sheet metal work, fabrications, pipework and ductwork. Additionally, this role requires the successful candidate to be able to manage the design and development of cost effective bespoke site-specific design solutions and meeting customer requirements. Other duties involved in this role:

Main duties will include:

  • Heading the current design team.
  • Work closely with the Project, Production and Sales Mangers to meet targets and maintain project deliverables.
  • Produce engineering drawings as per customer requirements in terms of standards, cost and time.
  • Assist with Project Management which will require liaising with the Production Department and Customers on a daily basis for regular updates for completion of contracts, attending regular reviews and design meetings as required on or off site.
  • Manage your own workload ensuring adherence to the approval and manufacture schedule agreed with Production and Customers.
  • Assist in the implementation of next step developments of systems and work practices within the Design Office.
  • Carry out site visits as and when required.
  • To be proactive ensuring all jobs are on target.
  • Supervise the design team to ensure drawings are issued on time.
  • To check accuracy of drawings prior to use.
  • Ensure all designs have a focus on cost and quality.
  • Work closely with production including programmers.
  • Resolve issues speedily.
  • Lead continuous improvement in design.
  • Take a leading role in the office to maintain professionalism.
  • Deal with disciplinary issues within the design team.
  • Assist with any other duties as required by the business in line with your skill set and experience.

Skills & Experience Required:

  • Must possess a minimum of 5 year's experience in a similar role.
  • Must be able to use AutoCAD, with 3D experience an advantage.
  • Be proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel and Project.
  • Must be able to produce layout and detail drawing.
  • Be conversant with sheet metal work and general fabrication techniques.
  • Be able to communicate effectively with colleagues and customers.
  • Must possess a full driving licence as the successful candidate may be required to carry out site visits as and when required.

What we offer in return:

  • Salary is negotiable dependant on qualifications and experience. Circa £50K but negotiable for the right candidate
  • Full time, permanent contract.
  • 33 days holiday (inclusive of annual, bank/public days).
  • Access to a contributory company pension scheme, employer contribution of 3%.
