Estimator - fit out

Duties and Responsibilities

Examine and analyse tender documentation in order to prepare high quality tender returns covering estimates on time, cost, materials and labour.

Assess cost effectiveness of products and services, tracking actual costs relative to bids as the project develops.

Consult with clients, suppliers, internal departments, and sub-contractors to discuss and formulate estimates and resolve issues.

Prepare internal estimates for planning, organising and scheduling purposes.

Produce analytically priced Bill of Quantities.

Prepare Preliminaries.

Prepare estimates for use in selecting suppliers or subcontractors.

Confer with relevant individuals on changes and adjustments to cost estimates.

Prepare cost and expenditure statements and other necessary documentation at regular intervals throughout the duration of the project.

Conduct relevant reviews to develop and establish standard hour and related cost data or to effect cost reduction.

Establish and maintain the tendering process and conduct negotiations.

Ensure effective handover of tender to construction team.

Maintain knowledge of current market trends, practices and products.

Person Specification

  • Previous experience of working in an estimating role in the construction industry.
  • Strong knowledge of cost control principles and practices.
  • The ability to read and understand technical drawings and architect's plans and interpret their content and technical specification.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Excellent analytical and numerical skills.
  • Strong commercial awareness.
  • First rate organisational skills with the ability to prioritise tasks and ensure deadlines are met.
  • Accuracy and attention to detail.
  • Self-motivated and able to use initiative and work well without supervision.
  • Computer literate with knowledge of MS Office, Excel, Project and Word.
  • Experience of using Causeway estimating software would be advantageous.
  • Ability to demonstrate a commitment to own personal development within the role.
  • A keen interest in the business.

Qualifications

  • Degree level qualification (or equivalent) in Commercial Management.
  • GCSE English (or equivalent).
  • GCSE Maths (or equivalent).
