Investment and Portfolio Operations Manager

The Family Office is the private investment vehicle of a well known entrepreneur and philanthropist. They invest in listed and unlisted companies across a broad range of sectors, taking strategic stakes where they believe the team can make a positive difference to the long-term performance of the business.

Job description: We are looking for an Investment and Portfolio operations manager, with experience in a single family office or an investment fund to join the investment team. This is a senior role, reporting to the CEO, and needs a robust, well organized enthusiastic person, with strong attention to detail who is an excellent communicator. They must be comfortable in both detailed analysis and in making recommendations to senior management.

The successful candidate will be responsible for reporting on the performance and progress of the portfolio, ensuring asset allocation is on track, and will own the integrity of the investment management system. They will also need to engage with portfolio companies to help drive performance, including representing the Family Office in board or board observer roles.

This is a hybrid role and will suit someone with experience and interest in the Financial Markets and the investment space, able to offer oversight and management of Portfolio Operations and ensuring efficient execution of strategic changes to the portfolio.

The role is full time and will be five days a week based in the London office.

Duties include:

Portfolio Operations

  • Monitor the listed investment portfolio to ensure asset allocation is in line with strategy. This will include leading and tracking the implementation of an initiative to re-allocate the listed portfolio to enhance geographical and sector diversification.
  • Undertake periodic reviews of asset allocation strategy with the CEO and Chairman, including modelling returns and making recommendations.
  • Own the process to track and report on the performance of portfolio companies to the board. This will involve liaising with other members of the investment teams.
  • Challenge other members of the investment team, and portfolio companies to deliver against key milestones.
  • Represent the Family Office in formal and informal board and board observer roles across the portfolio.

Investment Operations

  • Own the Investment Management Tool (Addepar).
  • Work closely with the accounting and investment teams to ensure investments are recorded correctly, and data integrity is maintained within Addepar.
  • Proactively drive process improvements
  • Own the annual portfolio valuation review exercise to support the group audit.
  • Review and update portfolio valuations at revaluation trigger points and using external data.

Deal Execution

  • Conduct financial and commercial due diligence on potential investments, make recommendations, identify key risks and risk mitigants.
  • Drive execution of transactions. This will include project managing internal and external stakeholders to ensure efficient and effective deal execution, maximising investment returns whilst mitigating risks and ensuring deal terms are understood by all internal stakeholders.

Other

  • Perform market research, data mining, business intelligence and valuation comps.
  • Support portfolio companies on an ad hoc basis (e.g. fundraising, financial planning)
  • Work closely with the legal and finance teams.
  • Engage with external advisers including banks.
  • Understand the use of leverage within the portfolio.

Qualifications:

  • 8-10 years of experience, including in an investment organisation
  • Strong excel skills, including financial modelling.
  • Strong system skills, including an understanding of data structures. Previous use of Addepar or a similar investment management tool an advantage
  • Accountancy or similar qualification an advantage

Personality and Interpersonal Skills:

  • Self-starter, with an ability to take ownership for process improvement.
  • Strong interpersonal skills, including written and oral communication skills.
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills; comfortable dealing with executive-level management
