Histology Laboratory Technician

We are seeking a dedicated Laboratory Technician to join our team, providing essential diagnostic and statutory testing services in a highly regulated environment. This role is crucial in supporting agricultural and environmental health through meticulous histology testing and compliance with ISO17025 standards.

Day-to-day of the role:

  • Collection and sorting of histology samples, recording any issues or non-conformances and alerting the area manager.
  • Maintain strict adherence to ISO17025 standards, including updating records, monitoring temperatures, and ensuring proper airflow in the laboratory.
  • Work collaboratively within a team to deliver diagnostic, statutory, and research results within specific timelines.
  • Adhere to health and safety regulations to maintain a safe working environment.
  • Manage laboratory records through the use of Excel spreadsheets, scanning, filing, and emailing paperwork.
  • Handle the disposal of histology waste and routine cleanliness, calibration, and maintenance of histology instrumentation.
  • Manage the sorting and storage of blocks and slides, and label paraffin wax sections onto glass slides.
  • Oversee the ordering and collection of store items, stock taking of consumable items, and monitoring the usage of chemicals and consumables.
  • Perform additional duties as required to maintain compliance with quality standards and SOPs in Histology.

Required Skills & Qualifications:

  • Proven experience in a laboratory setting, preferably with a focus on histology or related fields.
  • Familiarity with ISO17025 standards and laboratory accreditation processes.
  • Strong organisational skills and attention to detail.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and general computer literacy.
  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to work effectively as part of a team.
  • Commitment to maintaining high standards of laboratory safety and compliance.

The role is temporary and expected to last 3 months initially. The location is rural in Stormont so your own transport is essential in being able to get to the role daily.
