Office Based Fleet Engineer

The Role:

MKM Building Supplies are seeking a motivated and experienced Fleet Technician to join an existing Transport Department based in Hull supporting MKM's Branch Group nationwide.

Your primary responsibility is to ensure the efficient operation of our HGV fleet through effective management of our external service providers.

You will be tasked with establishing and maintaining service level agreements (SLAs), managing costs, and fostering strong relationships with our maintenance partners to uphold the highest standards of service delivery.

Key Responsibilities:

Heavily focussed on Vehicle Maintenance, you will work with and as part of the Transport Team overseeing the Operator License Maintenance requirements for a fleet of 700 commercial vehicles, split between 128 branches.

Technical Lead. You will be responsible for issuing authorisation to proceed to maintenance supplies, managing "Pay As We Go" costs, issuing purchase orders, scrutinising and passing for payment invoices, and managing query invoicing to resolution.

You will be expected to use your initiative in supporting all Transport costs and VOR's, working to support our internal customers along with service providers and manufacturers.

Cost Management:

  • Participate in quarterly manufacturer review meetings, being fully prepared to discuss warranty issues, goodwill claims and loss of use and parts pricing.
  • Conduct regular cost analyses and SLA reviews with the external supplier network, to identify areas for cost reduction and VOR improvement across the fleet.

Compliance Management:

  • Manage/support with overseeing the Fleet compliance schedule.
  • Manage/support with agreeing PMI schedules with suppliers and Branches.
  • Monitor SLA compliance and performance metrics on an ongoing basis, providing regular reports and analysis to the Head of Transport.

Third-Party Suppliers:

  • Develop strong relationships with our maintenance providers to ensure our service expectations specific to HGV operations are upheld.

Relationship Building:

  • Act as the primary point of contact for third-party HGV suppliers, fostering open communication and resolving any issues or concerns in a timely manner.
  • Supporting Head of Transport with suppliers and Branch visits to resolve any ongoing engineering issues were required.

Continuous Improvement:

  • Stay updated on industry trends, technological advancements, and best practices in HGV maintenance and repair, and actively seek opportunities for personal and professional development.
  • Sit Transport Manager CPC at an agreed point in time.

Qualifications:

  • Experienced fully qualified HGV Technician with at least 3 to 5 years' experience.
  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to interpret data and performance metrics.
  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Proficiency in software applications, such as fleet management systems and Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Detail-oriented with a focus on quality and continuous improvement.
  • Specific experience in working with/managing HGV fleets.
  • A positive attitude.
  • Excellent relationship builder with colleagues, customers, and suppliers.
  • A driver's licence is essential.
