Long-Term Teachers have a fantastic opportunity to make a real difference at a lovely special school located in Okehampton. Providing high quality education and support to students aged 4 - 16, our school is seeking to appoint dedicated teaching assistants to work across the school, depending on the need.

About the role:

The students you will be supporting all have needs associated with social, emotional and mental health challenges. Most of the students also have other associated additional needs, such as autism, ADHD, attachment issues and speech and language difficulties. Given that the students have SEMH difficulties and may display challenging behaviour, strong behaviour management skills, patience and resilience are crucial for this role.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Classroom support: Provide general classroom support, including one-to-one assistance and small group interventions as needed.
  • Lesson preparation: Assist the teacher with lesson planning, resource gathering and activity set up.
  • Safeguarding: Ensure the safety and wellbeing of all students, promoting a secure and supportive environment.
  • Behaviour management: Effectively manage student behaviour and address the individual needs in accordance with with their EHCP's
  • Curriculum access: Support students in accessing the curriculum, helping them to overcome barriers to learning

About You:

  • Experience: Previous experience working with children in the UK, whether in early years, primary or secondary education.
  • SEN knowledge: A strong understanding of special educational needs and strategies to support young people
  • Personal qualities: Resilient, adaptable, hardworking and possess a good sense of humour.
  • Professional growth: A willingness to develop your knowledge and skills further.
  • Flexibility: Ability to adapt to changing plans at short notice
  • Able to drive and have access to your own vehicle

This role is perfect for university students, experienced TA's looking for a new challenge or anyone wanting to work around their current schedule. You will be working term time only, Monday - Friday, between the hours of 8:30am - 3pm. If you would like to discuss this role further, please get in touch!
