The Rent Officer will oversee the management of rental income across our housing schemes, ensuring the accuracy and reliability of rent accounts and the integrity of tenant information within our rent management system.

Hours of Work:

The role is available for 28 or 35 hours per week, with a flexible hybrid working pattern that includes office-based and remote work.

Location:

The position is based in Redhill, Surrey, with the flexibility for remote work.

Main Responsibilities:

- Accurately process resident rent and payments on the housing management system to meet collection and arrears targets.

- Pursue housing debts with residents and local authorities, ensuring all actions are recorded and payment plans are agreed upon.

- Implement rent arrears procedures effectively, serving warnings and eviction notices in accordance with legal standards.

- Coordinate with Finance colleagues for council tax payments from local authorities.

- Allocate receipts correctly between rent accounts and support elements, providing information to Finance for system entry.

- Work closely with the Head of Finance to reconcile receipts and arrears balances monthly.

- Lead on Discretionary Housing Payments requests and liaise with local authorities on benefit issues.

- Maintain accurate rent accounts on the housing management system.

- Collaborate with Housing and Finance Teams on rent and support income management.

- Represent the organization in court for possessions and evictions when necessary.

- Generate monthly rent reports and work with the Finance Officer (income) on rent-related queries.

- Contribute to the review of housing arrears and support the achievement of Key Housing Performance Indicator targets.

- Stay informed about changes in the external environment, particularly around Welfare Reform.

- Attend professional development and training events, and participate actively in team events.

Requirements and Skills:

- Experience in a similar role, ideally within the housing or care sector.

- Proficient in financial data management and analysis.

- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

- Competent in Microsoft Office and familiar with housing management systems.

- Ability to work independently and collaboratively, with a focus on meeting deadlines and maintaining detail accuracy.

Education:

- Part ACCA qualified or equivalent, with a Bachelor's degree in Accounting and Finance.

- A-Levels and GCSEs, including Maths and English.
