Merrifield Consultants are proud to partner with an international development charity to find their new Media Officer with great news judgement, who is proactive about hunting out media opportunities, and tenacious about seeing ideas through until coverage appears. They will join a high performing Media and Comms team, where you'll be given room to flourish and supported to raise the profile of the organisation.

Job Title: Media Officer
Organisation: International Development
Salary: £38,000 - £42,000
Location: London (Two days in the office)
Benefits: 34 days holiday (8 bank holidays and 6 closure days, purchase scheme, Enhanced pension, Cycle to work and more.

Role responsibilities:

  • You will be working closely with the Head of Communications to pitch to a range of producers, journalists and editors whilst having a sense of what makes a good broadcast spokesperson.
  • Confidently help colleagues prepare for media opportunities.
  • Create ideas on how to secure media coverage for our work.
  • Prepare and identify media opportunities.
  • To communicate and build relationships with a range of external stakeholders around the world.
  • To find exciting and relevant news stories globally.

Skills and Experience:

  • Experience of securing media and PR coverage
  • Experience working with digital teams, to ensure a "digital first" approach to media
  • Experience turning complicated issues into newsworthy stories
  • Experience coming up with your own ideas to generate media coverage
  • Experience creating captivating and inspiring content
  • A passion for international development and the values of CAFOD

The ideal person for this role would be a tenacious, motivated and proactive individual who enjoys working as part of a team and autonomously to go and find news stories for internal and external stakeholders.
