Mental Health Support Worker - £24,050 - £26,000 per annum

Hours – 37 hours per week, Monday – Sunday, shifts include days, evenings, nights and weekends.

Service – Harwood House, Aylesbury

What You'll Be Doing:

The Harwood House team is a 24/7 supported living scheme for adults with long term mental health issues. Clients are supported at Harwood House following extended stays on acute psychiatric and rehabilitation wards or are returning closer to home after periods in out of county placements.

Overall job responsibility:

  • You will work as part of a team to provide a safe and comfortable environment for our clients to live.
  • Conduct daily house/ room checks and report any damage or maintenance to the Shift/ Lead Patch Area Manager.
  • Assist clients with tasks such as cleaning, shopping, budgeting, and household tasks that promote their independence.
  • Support clients to achieve their personal goals, including their physical health, relationship building and managing their mental health.
  • Update and assist clients in the progress of their personal support plans.
  • Support the safe administration of medication in line with the policy and the residents support plan. Work in line with the company's adult protection and prevention of abuse (where applicable). No resident will receive support with their medication until the employee has completed full training.
  • Comply with all health and safety measures to keep residents, visitors, colleagues and yourself safe by conducting regular checks within all areas and departments required.
  • Promote a duty of care, safeguard and protect residents by working with the resident on an individual basis in order to outline their strengths and weaknesses, while following all policies and procedures in place ensuring all mandatory training is completed.
  • Support residents with taking their medication.
  • Introduce clients to leisure activities, new interests, education or volunteering and support them to attend events or appointments.

The Successful Applicant:

  • Build relationships and be friendly, respectful, patient and empathetic towards others.
  • GCSE's in English and Maths (or equivalent)
  • Basic Health & Safety knowledge.
  • Ability to provide non-judgemental, emotional and practical support to residents and to gain their trust.
  • Flexible approach to working hours, including weekends.
  • Care for others and support them in challenging times. Perhaps you have done this in your personal life for friends or family.
  • Ability to work safely and responsibly without direct supervision with residents, and on your own.
  • Have respect for difference and diversity.
  • Use IT, with a basic knowledge of Word and Outlook.

You will receive the training and confidence to use core therapeutic talk therapies such as Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, Motivational Interviewing, Strength-based Trauma Informed Care and Mutual Aid to provide the best possible support to our clients
