Ecologist

We have an excellent opportunity for an experienced and highly motivated Ecologist to support our growing Managed Environments team.

The successful candidate will play a key role in conducting ecological surveys, producing reports, and providing ecological advice, toolbox talks, watching briefs and support to our vegetation management operatives and clients. The role will involve working on various projects across Wales and England, focusing on ECoW work, habitat surveys and protected species surveys.

We are a small team, and require someone who wants to learn and help with all aspects of projects; from talking to clients and managing their requirements, turning these into Quotes, carrying out the work, and finally producing reports for them.

What will I be doing?

  • Ecological Clerk of Works, ensuring Operatives remain compliant to methodologies and licenses.
  • Conducting ecological surveys and assessments in accordance with relevant legislation, guidelines, and best practice standards.
  • Producing high-quality ecological reports, including impact assessments, mitigation strategies, and habitat management plans.
  • Providing ecological advice and support to clients, including liaising with statutory bodies, local authorities, and other stakeholders.
  • Managing projects effectively, ensuring deadlines are met and work is delivered to a high standard.
  • Undertaking research and keep up to date with developments in ecological science and legislation.
  • Contributing to the development of proposals and tenders for new work
  • Undertaking training and attend courses to develop expertise in a chosen area.

What experience would we like you to have?

  • A degree or postgraduate qualification in ecology, animal management/behaviours or Zoology
  • Experience in undertaking Ecological Clerk of Works roles.
  • Working in an ecological role, with a proven track record of delivering high-quality work.
  • Conducting protected species surveys, including bats, great crested newts, dormouse, and reptiles.
  • A good understanding of relevant legislation, including the Wildlife and Countryside Act and the Conservation of Habitats and Species Regulations.
  • Excellent report writing and communication skills, with the ability to explain technical information to non-technical audiences.
  • Strong project management and organisational skills.
  • Full UK driving licence.
  • Willingness and flexibility to undertake evening or weekend shifts, as sometimes these cannot be avoided.
