Test Engineer

We are seeking an Electronics Test Technician to join our Test Department. The successful candidate will be responsible for ensuring that electronic and electromechanical educational products are calibrated and fully functional, following formal procedures and maintaining high standards of quality.

Day to Day of the role:

  • Calibrate and test the operation of manufactured electronic and mechanical assemblies.
  • Interpret electronic circuit diagrams, assembly drawings, and PCB artwork layouts.
  • Operate various test equipment, including function generators, oscilloscopes, multimeters, PAT testers, and test rigs.
  • Utilize light engineering equipment such as hand tools, drills, and presses for assembly tasks.
  • Assemble electronic circuits, wiring, and mechanical assemblies.
  • Access and utilize intranet-based resources for circuit diagrams, test schedules, assembly drawings, and PCB artwork layouts.

Responsibilities:

  • Verify correct operation of systems and apply fault diagnostic procedures to locate and correct malfunctions.
  • Follow formal procedures as specified by test schedules and technical documentation.
  • Complete test records and maintain department documentation accurately.
  • Manage workload effectively under the supervision of the Production Supervisor.
  • Ensure compliance with Health and Safety regulations.

Required Skills & Qualifications:

  • HNC level understanding and working knowledge of electronic components and circuitry.
  • Ability to follow circuit diagrams, assembly drawings, PCB artwork layouts, and component datasheets.
  • Detailed knowledge of PCB population and soldering of electronic components.
  • Experience in assembling electrical wiring and electronic/mechanical/electrical components.
  • Proficiency in fault finding, diagnosing, and repairing.
  • Experience with Windows-based software, including Microsoft Word and Excel.
  • Willingness to learn new software packages, including computerised stock control systems.
  • Ability to work accurately, with attention to detail, and in a tidy, organised manner to meet deadlines.
