Financial Accountant

Reed Finance are currently partnered with a Crawley based client in the recruitment of a Financial Accountant to take ownership of the general accounting function across their European entities and support general accounting activities within the UK entity. This role places a strong emphasis on maintaining a tight framework of controls and leading the adherence to these controls across all entities.

Day-to-day duties of Financial Accountant:

  • Manage and deliver month-end close processes.
  • Prepare month-end reporting packs with commentary on variances.
  • Conduct monthly balance sheet reconciliations and intercompany reconciliations.
  • Support annual and interim audits, as well as internal audits.
  • Implement weekly/monthly processes and rigorous controls.
  • Post payroll information to the finance system and reconcile.
  • Handle monthly and quarterly VAT submissions and accounting for European taxes.
  • Process journals, manage freight and express job exceptions.
  • Oversee invoice, credit note, vendor/customer onboarding, and credit approvals.
  • Review and close pre-month end freight/express jobs in line with accruals release policy.
  • Monitor and correct general ledger coding and manage SUN system accrual and prepayment allocations.
  • Update accounts structures & mapping as agreed with the Head of Finance (HoF).
  • Investigate and resolve operating system to accounting system interface failures.
  • Maintain leases and fixed asset schedules.
  • Support the preparation of annual budgets and quarterly forecasts.
  • Provide ad-hoc reporting and cover HoF and other management accountant activities as required.

Required Skills & Qualifications:

  • Relevant professional accountancy qualification or part-qualified status.
  • Demonstrable experience in a management accounting role.
  • Experience in Freight Forwarding or a similar business is advantageous.
  • Sound knowledge of accountancy techniques and practices.
  • Self-motivated and disciplined with a flexible approach to working practices.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and effective communication across all organisational levels.
  • Proven time management skills, initiative, and self-sufficiency.
  • Ability to prioritise and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
  • Strong Excel skills and working knowledge of Sun Accounting are beneficial.
  • Numerate with excellent attention to detail.
