Leaving care worker

About the Role:

We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate Leaving Care Support Worker to join our Complex Safeguarding Team. This role involves providing an efficient and effective service to children, young people, and their families affected by exploitation (criminal/sexual). You will deliver a purposeful, professional service to young people in need and their families, including assessment and appropriate intervention, in accordance with statutory requirements and departmental policies.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Service Delivery: Provide direct support to service users, employing a range of skills, methods, and techniques to reduce the risk of exploitation.
  • Assessment and Intervention: Conduct assessments, evaluate, and review programmes of work with service users, coordinating and organising services both within and outside the Complex Safeguarding Team.
  • Organisation and Administration: Participate in the organisation and administration of the work to ensure the provision of service is completed efficiently.
  • Management Information: Provide management information to assist in setting, implementing, and monitoring the Department's strategies and services.
  • Team Collaboration: Work with partner agencies and colleagues to provide appropriate services, sharing professional knowledge, ideas, advice, and information.
  • Record Keeping: Maintain appropriate records of services provided to service users in accordance with personal records and administration systems.
  • Meetings and Reviews: Attend meetings, reviews, case conferences, core groups, and review meetings, providing appropriate advice, support, and reports.

Additional Responsibilities:

  • Vulnerable Young People: Work with vulnerable young people who are at risk of exploitation, as part of the EXIT team co-located with GM Police.
  • Child Sexual Abuse Dynamics: Have knowledge of the dynamics involved in Child Sexual Abuse and an understanding of how children and young people are groomed and manipulated.
  • Safeguarding Processes: Be knowledgeable about child protection safeguarding processes, relevant legislation, youth offending, crime prevention, and diversion.
  • Case Management: Manage a caseload, complete specialist exploitation assessments, and develop risk reduction and support plans.
  • Multi-Agency Framework: Work within a multi-agency framework with GM Police as a main partner, offering support and consultation to additional partners supporting young people.

Working Conditions:

  • Office-Based: Candidates will be required to be office-based 5 days per week initially. After induction, consideration can be given to a WFH day per week.
  • Flexible Working: Due to the nature of the service, this is a flexible working post which may include evening and weekend work.
  • References and DBS: References will be requested for any candidates offered an interview, and a DBS check will be required for any candidate offered a post.

Qualifications and Experience:

  • Relevant qualifications in social work, youth work, or a related field.
  • Experience working with children, young people, and families affected by exploitation.
  • Strong assessment and intervention skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with partner agencies and colleagues.
  • Excellent organisational and administrative skills.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
