Systems Requirements Engineer

As a Requirements Capture and MBSE Systems Engineer, you will play a crucial role in the development and implementation of complex systems, ensuring that they meet the specified needs and requirements of stakeholders. This role requires a strong foundation in both traditional systems engineering practices and Model-Based Systems Engineering methodologies as well as a broad understanding of general engineering practices. You will be responsible for capturing, analysing, and managing system requirements while leveraging MBSE techniques to create and maintain detailed system models.

Requirements Elicitation and Analysis:

  • Supporting requirement engineering activities as directed to meet programme priorities (cost, schedule, performance).
  • Attending requirement working groups for projects as required and taking minutes where directed. Attendance can include recording additions and changes to live requirement and model-based systems engineering databases to maintain configuration.
  • Analyse and prioritise requirements to ensure clarity, completeness, and feasibility.
  • Working with other technical disciplines (designer engineers and architects), in support of project delivery to capture, understand, and document programme requirements.
  • Collaborate with stakeholders and suppliers as required.

Model-Based Systems Engineering (MBSE):

  • Carrying out systems engineering modelling activities, as directed to meet project priorities (cost, schedule, performance).
  • Develop and maintain system architecture models using MBSE tools and methodologies.
  • Create and manage system models to represent various aspects of the system, including structure, behaviour, and requirements traceability.
  • Utilise MBSE principles to enhance system design, analysis, and verification processes.
  • Developing and managing model-based systems engineering databases, including linkage to requirements and external evidence/document as required.

Requirements Management:

  • Support the development and management a requirements management system / database to track changes and ensure the integrity and provenance of the requirements throughout the system development lifecycle.
  • Potentially maintain traceability of system requirements to design elements and components. (Procurement strategy dependent).
  • Provide metrics and progress information to support the wider monitoring and reporting of systems engineering progress as directed. This will include reporting of issues and impediments.
  • Support to resolving conflicting requirements and ensure alignment with overall system objectives.
  • Maintaining configuration control and support to change management impacts throughout the programme lifecycle ensuring that alignment between the requirements baseline, System modelling and design product structure at all times.

Collaboration and Communication:

  • Foster effective communication and collaboration with multidisciplinary teams, including Internal SMEs within the JPT, External suppliers, and other stakeholders.
  • Present and communicate complex system engineering concepts and requirements to technical and non-technical audiences in a measured means for review and acceptance.

Verification and Validation:

  • Potentially contribute to the development of verification and validation plans and the programme develops to ensure that system requirements are met.
  • Collaborate with testing and validation teams to develop and execute test procedures based on system requirements and models.
