We have a fantastic opportunity for a Support Worker to work in a special educational needs school located in Walsall. This opportunity is to start ASAP and will be ongoing for the remainder of the academic year. This is a full-time position that requires an immediate start.

As a Support Worker, you will play a vital role in supporting students with severe and complex learning difficulties, ranging in age from 5 to 19. Our school provides a nurturing environment where students receive the necessary support to thrive academically, emotionally, and socially.

One of the key qualities we are looking for in our ideal candidate is the ability to build rapport quickly with the students. Many learners in this setting find it challenging to trust individuals, so your empathetic and approachable nature will be crucial in creating a safe and supportive learning environment.

Although this position primarily focuses on working in a school environment, we welcome applications from individuals who have experience as Teaching Assistants, Support workers, or have worked with Adults with special educational needs. Your passion for education and dedication to making a difference will be highly valued in the team.

Responsibilities:

  • You must be resilient and confident with your behaviour management
  • Establish a warm, caring and supportive relationship with students in order to support them feeling safe and enabling them to enjoy and learn during their time at the school
  • Promote and encourage independence and personal development in students and maintain high expectations of behaviour at all times
  • You must also have excellent communication skills as will be required to work closely with the class teacher and other teaching assistants

Requirements:

  • Availability to work Monday to Friday, from 8:30 to 15:30
  • Experience working with individuals with special educational needs (preferably within a school setting)
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Patience, empathy, and the ability to remain calm in challenging situations
  • A genuine passion for working with students with special educational needs
  • Relevant qualifications in education or special needs support are desirable but not essential

Zest Education are an REC audited agency and are dedicated to safeguarding children. All candidates must hold an enhanced DBS (or allow us to process one for you) and be registered to the DBS Update Service, be able to provide references to cover the last two years and successfully pass all other necessary safeguarding checks prior to clearance for work.

Salary is dependent on experience, training, or qualifications. The minimum experience, training, or qualifications required for this position are recent school-based experience (within the last 5 years within a school that teaches the British Curriculum) and/or care-based experience within the last 5 years.
