About the Role

Base Location: Perth, Inverness, Aberdeen or Glasgow

Salary: £55,200 - £83,000 + car / cash allowance + performance-related bonus + a range of other benefits to support your family, finances and wellbeing.

SSEN Transmission will deliver coordinated offshore networks as a part of the delivery of the Holistic Network Design (HND) to transmit 23GW of offshore wind to the United Kingdom. Significant investment is planned across the SSEN Transmission network including the deployment of multi-gigawatt offshore transmission assets. The Offshore Assistant Engineering Manager will be a key position in delivering the first of these projects of £2bn+ and as such play a pivotal role in the UK energy transition towards net-zero targets.

We are looking for an Assistant Engineering Manager who can bring innovative and new ways of thinking, with experience in engineering design, construction, installation, and commissioning, you'll play a key part in delivering Net Zero. We encourage candidates with a strong multi discipline engineering / project management experience in construction, consultancy, or client organisations within the Energy Industry to apply.

The responsibilities of the Assistant Engineering Manager (Offshore) will include:

  • Work in partnership with Offshore Installation, Marine & HVDC Engineering disciplines to deliver the Offshore Engineering scope in line with the project Design Management Plan.
  • Direct Line Management responsibilities of project engineers and responsible for the co-ordination of all engineering activities, including the selection and management of engineering consultants, and the technical direction of contractors.
  • Ensure that project technical requirements are clearly and robustly communicated to project teams, and lead on the delivery of key areas including Topsides, Jacket and Foundation, Offshore Systems and Auxiliary Plant.
  • Promote and manage safety within project portfolio, with a strong working knowledge of relevant UK legislation and apply previous knowledge to a new regulatory environment applying a risk-based approach to Major Accident hazard mitigation.
  • Identify, communicate and record design risk, lead design risk assessment processes and mitigate risk through sound implementation of the general principals of prevention.

What do I need?

To be considered for this role, we would love you to have:

  • UK-SPEC Chartered Engineer (CEng) Status
  • A degree in an appropriate engineering discipline coupled with significant experience leading multi-discipline teams in an offshore environment.
  • Demonstrable experience in Offshore Engineering development / design / specification and commissioning with the ability to technically address issues and assess a range of technical solutions.
  • In depth understanding of the technical requirements for design, manufacture, operation and maintenance of offshore assets in the UK regulatory environment.
  • Good technical knowledge of relevant legislation and the implications for Transmission network management for both Assets and Projects, including CDM and ESQCR and how to apply these in an offshore environment.
  • Ability to build strong trusted relationships with consultants and external industry experts with the capability to communicate and challenge complex technical issues clearly and concisely to reach a decision.
