A SEN Co-Ordinator is needed in a PRU school.

At Remedy we are looking for a Special Educational Needs Co-Ordinator (SENDCo) is a valuable and key member of our team, playing a complex and specialist role within our learning community. You will take responsibility for coordinating all the support for children who may have behavioural or various disabilities (SEND) within a Pupils Referral Unit (PRU). As a lead professional you will contribute to, alongside the SLT, monitoring and evaluating the performance of all support staff and support the delivery of improvement strategies for SEND.

Responsibilities for this SEN-CO post will include but are not limited to:

  • To improve SEND practices across the school community.
  • Manage the SEND Teams and assign responsibilities accordingly.
  • Maintain effective communication between staff, pupils and parents.

Ideal SEN Co-Ordinator role

  • Qualified Teacher Status (QTS).
  • Hold an appropriate SENDCo Qualification OR have experience in a SENDCo role and be willing to undertake qualification within 2 years of taking up post.
  • An excellent, efficient and emotionally intelligent communicator.
  • Sound working knowledge of the SEND Code of Practice.
  • A strong desire to work inclusively within an emotionally literate environment, supporting children who have experienced adverse childhood experiences (ACEs).
  • Experience of crisis-management/managing challenging behaviours and working with children with SEMH difficulties.
  • Experience of effective working with hard-to-reach or disengaged families.
