As Head of Delivery and Operations, you will lead and develop a team that is responsible for the delivery of heating network extension and connections to facilitate regional customer growth and manage asset operations for the regional asset portfolio. The role will manage assets, to provide reliable operations and meet project delivery activities,
Delivery of projects will mainly include primary networks, secondary networks and all in-building assets right up to the customer Heat Interface Unit and meter. Complex Asset projects (energy centres) will be delivered from the central Projects unit, in close cooperation with the Regional Delivery team's representative as a key interface. Working with clients and main contractors on new developments and owners of existing buildings, you will be accountable for all construction activity delivered by our client in the UK - including managing the relationship with their internal major projects team who will deliver the large infrastructure work.
Once an asset is constructed you will also be responsible for a team who are accountable for the operation of the infrastructure - including O&M, asset performance management, and customer services. Our client's delivery and operation model is to outsource, and you will manage the construction and operation of their networks through our supply chain of preferred partners in the UK. You will build and maintain strong relationships with key stakeholders..
You will develop your team to meet the demands of the Region, including operational and construction roles, contract management and project support staff.
You will be able to set up, develop and enable a strong safety management system and a safety culture which transcends legal obligations, but which drives good quality decisions across the business.
Key Responsibilities / Duties
- Delivery of all small projects in the Region, setting clear requirements and interface management from earliest mobilisation of the major projects team, to managing ongoing district network grid extensions and connections through regional delivery team.
- Management of operations - including O&M, Metering & Billing and Customer Services
- Building a team out with a suitable organisational design and competencies to enable you to span this broad list of responsibilities
- Selection and appointment of key contractors and service providers
- Ensuring deployment of CAPEX - from forecasting to management and approval of CAPEX spend
- Ownership of Cost of Production and OPEX - including fuel, site operation contracts, and customer services & billing contracts
- Forecasting, budgeting and planning; managing and operating within the agreed business plan and budget to ensure that targets are met
- Safety management system for the business
- Security processes including second-line management in the case of an incident
- Establish and build strong relationships with stakeholders including funders and delivery partners, for operational purposes.

Knowledge and Skills
- A strong track record of delivering infrastructure projects - through construction and into operation you will understand the importance of integrated teams married with clear processes and accountabilities.
- CAPEX-driven environment - understand the difference between asset ownership and construction industries
- You will have worked with JCT, NEC3 and ideally FIDIC contracts in the UK and have excellent understanding of how to structure procurement processes and contracts to manage risks whilst also developing strong relationships with key suppliers.
- Worked within a matrix structure where collaboration and cross-functional working are critical
- Demonstrate significant programme and project management experience
- Excellent communication and influencing skills and confidence in engaging at different levels of a business
- Collaborative and approachable leader
- A proactive approach, self-motivated and enthusiastic with very high levels of initiative

Qualifications and Experience
- Degree qualified
- Extensive experience in the energy market in a variety of operational and delivery roles.
- Experience of working with end-user customers (e.g., building owners/occupiers)
- More than 5 years management experience working in a management team
- Experience of successfully leading teams
- Experience of working effectively at a senior level, with ability to influence
- Experience of quality assurance
