Our ideal Healthcare Security Officer will be:

  • Passionate about the safety of patients, visitors, and healthcare staff
  • Confident working in a hospital environment and aware that at times you will come in contact with patients that are particularly unwell or showing signs of distress
  • Able to communicate appropriately and effectively with a range of people including those with mental health conditions
  • Able to verbally de-escalate in highly-charged and emotional situations
  • Make all decisions with empathy and with a patient-centric approach
  • Able and willing to undertake patient restraint, and management of patient violence and aggression training
  • Able to understand and carry out a range of routine work procedures and protocols, such as key management and patrolling
  • Knowledgeable about public safety and security procedures/protocols, including counter terrorism/Martyn?s Law
  • Knowledgeable, or willing to learn, about The Mental Health Act, CQC guidelines and NHS England Security guidelines
  • Able to work under pressure, individually and as part of a team with a flexible approach to meet the needs of the business
  • Computer literate

What you will be doing (not exhaustive)

  • Utilising provided training to support clinical teams with de-escalating incidents of violence and aggression
  • Use provided training to support clinical teams with occasionally restraining patients in a professional and legal manner
  • Support the Police with those under arrest brought into the hospital
  • Incident response to a variety of situations inside the hospital and outside within the hospital grounds boundary
  • Providing excellent customer service to all those you come into contact with
  • Internal and external patrols
  • Completing incident reports and completion of the Daily Occurrence Book
  • Participating in post-incident debriefs and reviews, and implementing learnings
  • Maintain, and issue, ID badges and Access Control cards, and the associated database
  • CCTV monitoring (if have, or willing to obtain a funded, SIA CCTV licence)
  • Alarm monitoring and response
  • Car Park management
  • Assisting in preventing acts of violence, crime or disorder
  • Be part of a high-achieving team that creates a safe, secure and supportive environment for all hospital users and staff
