We are looking for a Community Safety Officer in Exeter. You will be investigating complaints and incidents relating to matters of anti-social behaviour, envirocrime, stray dogs and unauthorised encampments whilst providing support to victims and complainants.
Shift pattern 4 days on 4 days off including weekends - 06:45am till 16:30pm.
This is a contract running from August until March 2025.
Duties will include:
- Investigate complaints of anti-social behaviour and envirocrimes from the first point of referral through to resolution, including advising and supporting complainants, witnesses and perpetrators, investigating complaints and seeking informal resolution such as mediation, assertively challenging behaviour or taking legal action.
- Be a regular, visible presence in the city, taking a proactive response to complaints.
- Provide robust evidence when required to enable formal action to be undertaken.
- Accurately record incidents reported by the public and other agencies and to evaluate the effectiveness of intervention by use of the system.
- Undertake routine patrols and enforcement with respect to stray dogs.
- To carry out any other duties commensurate with the role.
The ideal candidate will have the following experience:
- Relevant degree or equivalent experience and experience in Anti-Social Behaviour.
- Experience of investigating Anti-Social complaints.
- Excellent keyboard skills; use of office computer software and mobile commnication devices.
- Experience of working with partner organisations.
- Experience of taking formal action (serving notices, interiewing under caution, gathering evidence, prosecutions.)
- Enthusiastic and self motivated to carry out duties using initiative and with the minimum of supervision.
- Excellent interpersonal and negotiation skills.
- Full clean driving license.
