General Manager - Cyber & Governance Based in New Zealand

In this role, you will oversee cybersecurity and governance initiatives, reporting directly to the CE of Technology for a top New Zealand bank. This presents a unique opportunity to make a significant impact and work with a high performing team. This role is based in Wellington or Auckland in New Zealand and the company would provide sponsorship to the successful candidate.

The General Manager of Cyber & Governance is a senior leadership position within one of New Zealand's top banks. You will be a member of the Technology Leadership Team which proactively collaborates and takes collective responsibility to enable the effective and efficient delivery of Technology strategies, roadmaps and plans. The role is responsible for setting the strategic direction for Cyber Security at the bank and leads the team to pro-actively mitigate, detect, and respond to cyber-security threats, incidents and attacks. This role which is based in Auckland or Wellington, also covers the overarching accountability for a highly complex governance across Technology Risk and Service Management and oversees Technology's response to all Major incidents.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide strategic, technical, and functional leadership for Information & Cyber Security, Management Assurance (Tech Risk) and Service Management.
  • Develop and maintain a business and technology aligned the banks Cyber Security Strategy.
  • Oversee a program of work to deliver strategic changes to Cyber Security, Tech Risk and Service Management capabilities, this includes preparation of business cases and funding submissions.
  • Provide reporting on key Cyber & Governance matters to senior stakeholders, including Board.
  • Be alert to emergent opportunities and risks and adapt strategies and work where necessary.
  • Build and maintain strategic relationships in the internal and external environment to ensure delivery of high value services.
  • Provide visible leadership, challenging the status quo and driving continuous improvement.
  • Maintain a superior performing function ensuring high colleague engagement. Encourage collaborative relationships with technology and business colleagues.
  • Develop a culture within the function that promotes and inspires a sense of ownership, accountability, results, agility, responsiveness, and proactive alignment with the business.
  • Ensure rigorous and robust risk management is adopted across the function to identify relevant risks and develop mitigating solutions with associated costs and benefits.
  • Develop and embed the use of data, analytics, and insights to provide detailed monitoring on business performance and outcomes to lift ongoing performance.
  • Drive a continuous improvement framework across the business and into the wider enterprise to achieve meaningful productivity enhancements through process efficiency and digital solutions. Financial Responsibilities:
  • Manage Cyber & Governance run and program budgets and meet responsibilities as outlined in the Technology Plan and financial measures.

Requirements

Essential:

  • Extensive experience in Information Security.
  • Proven Leadership and achieving results through people.
  • Advanced written skills and communication, including the preparation of written briefings to senior leaders up to and including Board Level.
  • Exceptional analytical and quantitative problem-solving skills, including identifying and working through business trade-offs.
  • Able to communicate complex ideas effectively, both verbally and in writing, including to executive stakeholders.
  • Able to present effectively in a range of business settings.
  • Able to work effectively with people in all levels of the organisation and maintain a high pace of output.
  • Strategy and commercial acumen - preferably within Financial Services or other major industries (e.g. Insurance, Telecommunications, Utilities, Funds Management, Investment Banking).
  • Proven track record in stakeholder management, including driving timelines for others inputs.
  • Ability to influence at the highest level within an organisation.

Desirable:

  • Financial Services Sector experience
  • Knowledge Information and Cyber Security threats specific to Banking
  • Program/Project Management
  • Management consulting experience from a top tier strategy consulting firm.

Qualifications:

  • Tertiary level qualifications in Information Security discipline
  • Industry specific Information Security Qualifications, e.g. CISSP, CISM etc.
