Our client, a cutting-edge innovative engineering company based in Yorkshire, is renowned for its innovative solutions. They are seeking an exceptional Director of Operations to lead their talented team and steer the company towards the next phase of their growth & commercialisation.

A dynamic and rapidly growing international company dedicated to establishing new business ventures for scalable growth with commitment to operational excellence and outstanding commercial management drives them to seek a seasoned Operations Director.

As the Operations Director, you will be responsible for overseeing all aspects of our operations, and commercial activity to ensure seamless execution of business strategies and drive operational excellence. Your primary objective will be to support the establishment of new business ventures while maintaining a focus on scalability and efficiency.

Key responsibilities:

  • Manage the overall operations of the firm, ensuring projects are delivered on time and within budget.
  • Oversee the production [and development] processes, improving efficiency and quality.
  • Lead and mentor workshop and support staff, and to be established operations team.
  • Foster a collaborative work environment and promote a culture of continuous improvement and innovation.
  • Handle staffing requirements, including recruitment, training, and performance evaluation.
  • Manage the operational budget, ensuring effective allocation of resources and cost management.
  • Monitor financial performance, making adjustments to operations as necessary to meet financial goals.]
  • Evaluate and improve operational systems, processes, and best practices.
  • Implement quality assurance measures to ensure product and service excellence.
  • Communicate effectively with other executive team members to make informed strategic decisions.
  • Coordinate with Technology/Engineering/Chemistry teams to ensure operational priorities are aligned with technical targets and customer demands.
  • Engage with external stakeholders, including suppliers, contractors, and clients to enhance business opportunities and partnerships.
  • Ensure operations, designs and built systems/components comply with relevant legal regulations and internal policies.
  • Oversee risk management procedures related to operational functions.
  • Innovation and Technology Adoption/Integration:
  • Promote the integration of innovative technologies and operational practices to maintain competitive advantage.

Qualifications, experience and skills

Essential requirements:

  • A upper level honours' degree in Mechanical or Chemical Engineering (or equivalent).
  • Minimum 15 years working in engineering or chemical/gas production environment.
  • Minimum 10 years working in a senior operational role.

Desirable qualifications/experience:

  • A Master's degree or an MBA
  • Experience working with Hydrogen/flammable gases/chemical processes in an ATEX/Ex environment.
  • Experience of setting up and managing teams in multiple locations and shift work
  • Experience with small to medium scale chemical processes.

Preferred skills:

  • Strong leadership and people management skills.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Proficiency in project management and strategic planning.
  • Financial acumen to manage budgets and forecast operational needs.
  • Ability to handle high-stress situations and make decisions under pressure.
  • Knowledge of industry-specific regulations and compliance requirements.

Other Considerations

  • This is a full-time position.
  • All applicants must already hold the legal right to work in the UK.
  • UK travel and overseas travel may be required in order to cover occasional customer or supplier visits, attendance at training courses, etc
