Mental Health Nurse

We are looking for experienced and independent mental health nurses for a trust in South West England who can handle case loads and guide and supervise a team when required.

Description

You will be responsible for the provision of specialist forensic mental health nursing care and treatment for individuals who have a mental disorder and have demonstrated offending behaviour or who present a significant risk to others.

You will be integral to the multi-disciplinary team, providing assessment and treatment to men of working age within a recovery-focused service. There is a need to demonstrate a commitment to teamwork.

The role includes leading a team during the shift alongside a fellow RMN, providing evidence-based care to our clients, and working collaboratively with our community team colleagues to ensure that the admission and discharge process is effective.

You will lead the clinical management of designated service users, ensuring comprehensive nursing care is assessed, implemented, and planned effectively. You will also be responsible for engaging junior staff and students in patient activities, and meticulously observing, reporting, and recording changes in patients' physical and mental health and behaviour.

Additionally, you will support the Clinical Lead and Ward Manager in providing clinical leadership within the team, contributing to achieving team objectives, targets, and quality standards.

  • Demonstrable experience of working in a mental health setting
  • Knowledge and experience of adult safeguarding procedures
  • Restraint of patients using approved techniques
  • Handling patient valuables and storing them appropriately
  • Ability to deal with emotional and distressing situations
  • Excellent interpersonal skills
  • Respect for the privacy and dignity of individuals
  • Ability to manage demanding situations
  • Ability to cope with exposure to aggressive behaviour
  • Ability to plan own workload
  • Knowledge of mental health presentations and appropriate interventions
  • Adherence to the NMC Code of Conduct
  • Knowledge of risk management and how to plan care to account for risk
