Our client is looking for an experienced Research Software Engineer to join their growing team. As a Research Software Engineer, you will be a crucial technical partner, supporting existing customers by delivering expert software development services. Your role will involve collaborating with a diverse research user base, spanning various academic disciplines, to design, enhance, and support cutting-edge software solutions that drive research success.

You'll work closely with the Managed Services team to provide technical guidance, optimised workflows, and best practice training to ensure customers are empowered in their research endeavours.

Main Responsibilities

Customer Support & Enablement:

  • Deliver expert advice, coding support, and coaching to researchers within the user community.
  • Develop and deliver tailored training courses, including the creation of relevant content.
  • Create and maintain detailed technical documentation to support the user community.

Engagement with Research Communities:

  • Build strong relationships with research teams both within customer organisations and beyond, identifying opportunities to collaborate on research or secure funding for new projects.

Stakeholder Communication:

  • Execute communication plans across a diverse range of stakeholders, including senior executives, vendors, technical experts, and end users.
  • Provide clear, regular reports detailing services provided, achievements, and future developments.

Advocacy & Industry Involvement:

  • Act as a thought leader within the software engineering sector by actively engaging with external networks, including national RSE communities, to stay informed of industry trends and best practices.
  • Attend relevant events such as seminars, conferences, and technical briefings..
  • Collaborate with marketing teams to generate content for blogs and social media as required.

Departmental Responsibilities:

  • Maintain accurate records of service delivery, including time tracking and documentation.
  • Assist in sales presentations and meetings with prospective customers, offering technical insights and expertise.
  • Provide ongoing internal training to technical teams to promote best practices.
  • Partner with the Managed Service team to resolve customer issues and deliver a seamless service.

Techncial Responsiblities:

  • Advanced skills in at least two languages commonly used for research computing e.g. Fortran, C/C++, Python
