Statistical Risk Modeller

A leading FTSE 250 FS company is seeking an experienced modelling professional to join its established Model Risk Management (MRM) team. In this pivotal role, you will help assess and manage the risk of complex models that are critical to the business's decision-making, valuation, and risk measurement processes. The position offers a unique opportunity to engage with various areas of the business, working alongside Risk and Finance professionals, model developers, and key stakeholders. As part of the MRM team, you'll play a central role in ensuring the robustness and accuracy of the models that drive business strategy.

Role Overview: Reporting to the Head of Model Validation, your responsibilities will include:

  • Conducting independent reviews throughout the model lifecycle, including development, changes, validation, and ongoing monitoring.
  • Leveraging R for statistical analysis and investigations, alongside other tools like SAS, Excel, and Python.
  • Developing and validating models in key areas such as credit risk, IFRS9, stress testing, and economic capital.
  • Building challenger models, performing back-testing, stress testing, and recalibrating models when necessary.
  • Documenting findings from validations and presenting them to model governance committees.
  • Staying informed on regulatory changes and best practices in the industry.
  • Supporting model governance and helping to enhance the Group's overall risk management framework.

Requirements:

  • At least 2 years of experience in model development or validation within the financial services industry.
  • Proficiency in R for statistical analysis, along with skills in SAS, Excel, and Python.
  • Knowledge of credit risk modelling (PD, LGD, EAD estimations), IFRS9, and stress testing, or equivalent modelling within a regulated industry sector.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities, with attention to detail.
  • Excellent communication skills, capable of conveying complex concepts to senior stakeholders.
  • A degree in a numerate discipline (e.g., Mathematics, Statistics, Economics, or a related field).
