Alternative Education Teacher

to join our dynamic team at a complex Pupil Referral Unit (PRU) based in Stockton.

About the provision

The PRU offers a vital educational lifeline to KS3 and KS4 pupils who are at risk of exclusion, have been permanently excluded, or are unable to attend mainstream school due to a variety of reasons, including physical or psychological illness. They work closely with mainstream schools to broker alternative vocational provisions, ensuring that each pupil receives a tailored educational pathway that best supports their needs.

Your Role

As an Alternative Education Teacher, you will:

  • Deliver engaging and differentiated lessons to small groups of pupils who may have additional emotional, social, or behavioral needs.
  • Provide a safe and nurturing environment that fosters academic and personal growth.
  • Collaborate with other staff to create individualized learning plans for each student.
  • Engage with parents, carers, and external agencies to provide a holistic support system for each pupil.
  • Work closely with vocational providers and mainstream schools to offer alternative educational routes for students.

What We're Looking For

  • Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) or equivalent.
  • Experience in working with students who face barriers to education, including those at risk of exclusion or those with social, emotional, and mental health (SEMH) needs.
  • A strong commitment to supporting young people with complex needs in their learning journey.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with a collaborative approach to working with staff, families, and external partners.
  • Resilience, empathy, and the ability to adapt to the needs of individual pupils.
