Senior Payroll Officer

A permanent opportunity has come up for a Senior Payroll pratitioner join a large UK-wide retailer in a senior capacity and take a lead role in the smooth and effective delivery of the company's employee payrolls to the 5000 strong workforce.

Joining an existing team of 4, the Payroll Officer will help deliver a robust payroll operation for the clients' large employee base across the UK, providing excellent customer service to all departments in line with agreed performance levels.

Applciants must be fully conversant with Zellis Resourcelink to apply as the has recently implemented the system which needs continued configuration to suit to the business needs. The post will suit someone with solid experience delivering complex payrolls to businesses with a large employee base (several thousand ideally); someone who can remain calm and unflustered in high pressure situations with a great attention detail and ability to manipulate large sets of financial data. The team is a very close knit outfit but developing and while team mamangement is not part of the role, the successful candidate will play a key role in the skills development of the team through knowledge sharing and leading by example, mentoring and supporting them as required.

The role allows for fully remote working or hybrid working with the closest retail outlet as an office base.

The role comes with a competitive salary circa £65-70K + Benefits.

Responsibilities:

  • Help Manage the monthly payroll payment processing in line with legislation and Company policy and support the payroll team by participating in the processing of the monthly payrolls.
  • Build and foster strong relationships with stakeholders, understanding their service requirements and ensuring any issues are dealt with in a prompt and professional manner.
  • Provide advice and guidance on payroll best practice, policy, process and operating procedures.
  • Identify opportunities for improvement, make suggestions and implement appropriate changes.
  • Ensure the payroll schedule is adhered to and any changes to the schedules are communicated to stakeholders at the earliest opportunity.
  • Manage payments to third parties, including HMRC and Pension providers.
  • Administer year end payroll processing (e.g. P11d) and reporting in line with legislation.
  • Be fully conversant with the systems required to operate as part of the role and to use systems in line with policies and procedures.
  • Provide expert advice and interpretation of Payroll legislation to support managers when making pay-related decisions.
  • Undertake any other duties as required.

Skills & Experience:

  • 3+ years minimum experience working in a high volume In-House payroll function
  • Previous experience with Resourcelink payroll software
  • Strong Excel skills, Vlookups and pivot tables essential
  • Ability to manipulate and develop HR and Payroll reports
  • Strong attention to detail
  • Credible and professional
  • Resilient
  • CIPP qualified (desirable)
  • Ability to work on own initiative, working within a team and the ability to meet deadlines
  • Excellent organisation skills with the ability to multi-task
  • Supervisory skills (desirable)
