Governance Officer, Permanent, Part Time, £17,000 for 21 hours fte of £28,500

Reed are delighted to be supporting a collaborative organisation in recruiting the position of Governance Officer to join the team on a permanent, part time basis, working 21 hours per week (spread across 3-4 days).

This position is key to providing proactive support to the Chief Executive and Finance Director, to ensure continual development of good governance and effective leadership of the charity in line with good practice, compliance and legislation.

Main responsibilities

  • Act as the lead officer for governance support and elections, overseeing activity, monitoring and advising on matters, supporting in decision making in line with charitable objectives.
  • Support with administration and scheduling for governance meetings, including creating agendas and taking minutes, alongside secretarial support updating companies house, dealing with annual returns and director information
  • Support with general correspondence regarding the secretariat and trustees
  • Keep accurate and up to date records of governance information.
  • Keep an up-to-date knowledge of governance good practice
  • Oversee the co-ordination of governance induction, training and development activity.
  • Monitor governance standing orders, delegated authorities and terms of reference, ensuring they meet the needs of the organisation.
  • Overseeing the effective functioning of an organisational policy framework.
  • Ensure the organisational risk register is up to date and communicated to the relevant committees.
  • Build and maintain good relationships with Governance support leads in other partner organisations
  • Establish and communicate accurate lists of voters in advance of elections
  • Circulate information and guidance on statutory requirements to relevant stakeholders

Requirements

  • Proven experience within Governance in a similar role- at least 1-2 years
  • Understanding of charity governance and it's application to create high performing boards
  • Strong administrative, organisation and committee skills
  • Experience handling strictly confidential information
  • Strong IT skills including Word, Excel, Outlook and PowerPoint
  • Excellent interpersonal skills at all levels
  • Strong communication and relationship management
  • Great at using initiative and problem solving
  • High levels of attention to detail and accuracy
  • Able to work under pressure as required to meet deadlines and targets
  • Professional work manner
  • Self-motivated and enthusiastic
  • Able to manage a high volume of work
  • Driving licence to attend meetings
  • Project / Programme management skills – Desirable
