Kent Fire and Rescue Service (KFRS) has an exciting opportunity available for a Payroll and Pensions Officer to join our team in Maidstone. You will join us on a full-time, permanent basis, and in return, you will receive a competitive salary of £26,457 - £34,061 per annum .

Being a Payroll and Pensions Officer at KFRS

As part of a small team, you will play an important part in ensuring that we deliver great customer service to our colleagues. You will support the Payroll and Pensions Manager in the management of all day-to-day payroll and pensions activity ensuring accuracy, compliance with legislative requirements, and adherence to all deadlines. You will also support ad-hoc payroll and pensions project work and the development of systems and processes to provide an efficient and effective service to all customers.

What you'll do

  • Input, calculate and check payroll data including; statutory payments (i.e. maternity, paternity, sickness, redundancy) and deductions (i.e. salary sacrifice, court orders, third party).
  • Undertake all necessary activity to ensure compliance with payroll and pensions legislation and policies (i.e. auto-enrolment, pay awards, employee contribution re-bandings, pension scheme membership).
  • Undertake all necessary activity to ensure compliance with payroll and pensions reporting requirements and deadlines (i.e. starters and leavers, pension leaver details, monthly pension returns, The Pensions Regulator).
  • Assist in the management, co-ordination and response to payroll and pensions related queries and complaints from customers.
  • Assist in ad-hoc project work to improve systems and processes or to implement changes in payroll and pensions legislation.
  • Assist in the production of payroll and pensions information to be published on the Authority's website.

What you'll bring

  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Excellent organisation skills with the ability to work to deadlines, which are occasionally subject to conflicting demands.
  • Ability to work on own initiative and with minimum supervision.
  • Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing with a wide range of internal and external customers in a clear and concise manner.
