Robertson Bell are seeking an experienced and dedicated Financial Controller to join this central government organisation. Reporting to the Director of Finance, you will be a crucial part of the Financial Control team, collaborating with four team members, including working alongside the permanent Financial Controller, an Assistant Accountant, and two Accounts Assistants.
Key Responsibilities:
- Support the production of the Annual Report and Accounts.
- Provide capital accounting support to the Financial Controller.
- Develop and implement an improved control framework using best practices and audit recommendations.
- Collaborate with the Finance System team to identify, develop, and implement system reports.
- Produce, review, and publish data returns, identifying and implementing process improvements.
- Oversee the preparation of VAT returns and associated reconciliations, identifying process improvements.
- Review and update policies such as accounting policies, fraud, and expenses.
- Embrace continuous improvement tools and techniques to modernise the finance function for the future.
This fixed term Financial Controller will be based at their head office in Birmingham and will require two visits a week in the office. Please note previous experience in the civil service is highly desirable but not essential.
The successful candidate will:
- Be CCAB qualified.
- Have extensive experience in Financial Statements / Annual Report & Accounts preparation.
- Feel confident carrying out financial control process improvement reviews and implementations.
- Have capital accounting technical skills and experience.
