Mechanical Design Manager

Due to project requirements the position of Mechanical Design Manager for ? MEPh has become available to join our Aviation Framework at Heathrow located in Hounslow.

As Heathrow embarks upon its 7th regulatory period "H7", Costain was awarded two lots as Major Project Partner and Asset Renewal Partner for Terminal 2 - The Queen's Terminal.

This role will be hybrid with 4 days on site.

Role Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree level qualification in Mechanical Engineering / Engineering or management apprenticeship with industry experience.
  • Chartered member (or working towards) of professional institute (IMechE etc).
  • Minimum 5 years post-graduate mechanical design, engineering, or management experience in Building Services with demonstrable track record of achievement.
  • Experience managing external suppliers to deliver Project design packages for all aspects of the project life-cycle.
  • Must agree scope of works with all designers, agree deliverables lists and schedule for each project, work with the team to develop fee proposals for acceptance by the Project Manager and Commercial Manager, agree lines of communication between different design organisations and site teams.
  • Experience in working to requirements of CDM 2015.
  • Demonstrable knowledge of at least one design and construction process models (e.g. plan of work)
  • Practical approach, logical thought process and a methodical way of working
  • A creative and innovative approach to problem-solving.
  • Understand of operating EDMS and design workflows.
  • Experience of technical management being able to understand and review design deliverables and able to demonstrate the ability to collate information and prepare reports.
  • Some experience of drafting effective contractual correspondence and the facilitation of collaborative solutions
  • Basic negotiating and team-working skills
  • Strong analytical skills
  • Demonstrable basic legal, contractual and construction knowledge
  • Experience in implementing and delivering strategic objectives and dealing with change.
  • Experience identifying and managing interfaces.
  • Confidence and ability to assert influence.
  • Experience of working in a highly regulated environment, preferably aviation or rail
  • Must be willing and able to obtain and maintain the necessary site passes and CSCS card.
