Job Title: Logistics Service Manager

Location: Essex, Purfleet (RM15 4YA)

Salary: Basic £45,000 per annum plus £250 out of hours calls and car allowance £250 per month (Total Package £51,000)

Job Type: Full-time, Permanent

Working Hours: 42.5 hours per week, 7am – 16.30pm, work hours can vary at times (1 hour unpaid lunch)

We are an ethical and fast-growing company, and an exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced Logistics Service Manager who knows what it takes to manage drivers in a fast-paced, multi-drop environment to join our team of exceptional people.

The Role:

The role is based at our Materials Recycling Facility in Purfleet RM15 4YA. As one of London's biggest waste & recycling firms which is quickly growing winning prestigious contracts, this is an excellent opportunity for the right person. We are looking for someone reliable, hard-working and flexible that will be with us for the long run.

As our Logistics Service Manager, reporting to Head of Operations, you will be responsible for the road operations running as smoothly and efficiently as possible. You will oversee 6500 collections per week across a range of services, delivering service excellence, meeting their requests and expectations. You will need to make sure we have enough staff to carry out our services, therefore responsible for recruitment and training of the manual staff and maintaining high standard of discipline. You will be responsible for the driver trainer, transport coordinator and 2 shift managers, as well as 60 drivers & 20 mates (through shift managers) to help you meet these targets.

Responsibilities:

The role also incudes (but is not limited to);

  • Achieve service excellence (98% success rate)
  • Management of drivers and mates including conducting disciplinaries
  • Staff retention & training
  • Recruitment of staff
  • Working with our Helpdesk & Account Management team to ensure that we deliver Service Excellence to our clients
  • Manage the shift managers to run the shift with minimal issues, ensuring collections are carried out correctly
  • Ensure manual staff meet the standards expected of them, through the shift managers, and take disciplinary action when required
  • Promote and maintain a high standard of Health & Safety reporting on near misses, incidents, and accidents
  • Deal with any emergency collections that arise in the evening or at the weekend
  • Any other duties as requested

About you:

  • At least 3 years' experience of managing manual staff in a fast-paced logistics environment (warehouse/parcels/waste/other)
  • Ability to think independently & solve problems
  • Good written and spoken English
