Police Misconduct Associate Solicitor

The Regulatory Department, widely recognized as one of the largest and top-performing in the country, serves clients across diverse sectors including health, public sector, corporations, and individuals.

Your main responsibility will be to offer legal advice within Weightmans' police conduct team. We are currently seeking an experienced Police Associate with over 3 years of PQE to deliver high-quality and timely legal counsel. While prior experience advising police forces is preferred, it is not mandatory. Any background in regulatory law would be advantageous, and advocacy skills are not obligatory.

Your tasks will include:

  • Advising on gross misconduct cases, involving drafting Regulation 30 notices, managing disclosure, preparing bundles, and overseeing all aspects of pre-hearing and hearing arrangements.
  • Handling similar responsibilities for accelerated hearings.
  • Providing general counsel on police conduct matters.
  • Liaising with various stakeholders such as solicitors, experts, counsel, and clients.
  • Conducting regular face-to-face training sessions for police officers.
  • Managing Case Manager diary and action lists.
  • Drafting various documents, including court applications.
  • Ensuring compliance with client care standards and SLAs.
  • Completing Client Management Information procedures.
  • Meeting predetermined financial and chargeable targets.
  • Adhering to relevant rules, policies, and procedures.
  • Staying updated with legal developments.
  • Operating in accordance with Weightmans' values.

This list is not exhaustive, and you will be expected to undertake additional duties and responsibilities within the broader scope of the role, while ensuring compliance with relevant Weightmans and client policies and procedures, and consistently embodying our values.

About You:

You should be a qualified solicitor, preferably with regulatory or in-house experience. Given the varied nature of the role, we seek candidates with a flexible approach and the ability to adapt to diverse tasks. Additionally, you should:

  • Be qualified as a solicitor or barrister in England and Wales with a minimum of 3 years PQE.
  • Demonstrate effective written and oral communication skills.
  • Manage a complex workload efficiently and collaborate effectively with various stakeholders.
  • Maintain Case Manager diary and action lists.
  • Achieve predetermined financial and chargeable targets.
