Summary

As Assistant Gardener, you'll be working with a team to deliver the day-to-day care of the garden and maintain high presentation standards. This role will include a range of practical tasks to develop, improve and look after the garden and contribute to the delivery of the Castlefield Viaduct project.

Hours: This role is based on annualised hours, where the amount of hours you work each month may vary, however your salary will be paid in 12 equal instalments over the year

Salary: £11.64 per hour

Contract: Fixed until 28 September 2025

What it's like to work here

In this role, you'll report to the Senior Gardener. This role is fixed term until end of September 2025 and will work 416 hours from October 2024 to September 2025 covering Saturdays and Sundays. There will be some weekday working, Wed-Fri, mainly in the school holidays.

We're looking for people with a passion for public engagement who will enjoy communicating the stories of the Viaduct, keeping visitors up to date with the project as it develops and helping to manage visitor numbers, alongside caring for the garden. This role will suit someone who enjoys working with other organisations, volunteers, and in particular visitors and wants to be part of a great team

What you'll be doing

Daily responsibilities may include assisting with the planting and maintaining of raised planters, weeding, watering and pruning. You'll talk to the public every day, answering a variety of questions and talking about the project and what you are doing with pride. We're looking for someone with a practical approach to work, getting the day-to-day work done and an interest in plants. The role can sometimes be physically challenging, and we use a wide range of equipment to help us get our work done.
