Machine Operator

First Achieve Engineering are seeking a Machine Operator for an award-winning, global business, who specialise in the design and manufacture of supremely robust, high-technology solutions for various industries including foundries, forges, steelworks, nuclear plants and garbage disposal facilities. Our will be based out of their state-of-the-art facilities near East Kilbride.

  • Paying an hourly rate in the £15 -£16.50 per hour
  • 39 Hours per week, typically 6.00 -2.30pm Monday to Thursday and 1.30 finish on a Friday, with opportunity for overtime at enhanced rates.

The main duties of this position are the following:

  • Specialise in the setup and operation of a convention horizontal boring machine.
  • Operate various other machine tools: lathe; milling machine; drill etc.
  • Produce component parts from conventional engineering drawings and specifications in a timely manner and to high standards.
  • Work to tight engineering tolerances.
  • Inspect and measure own work throughout the manufacturing process.
  • Assist in the creation of standard working procedures for typical processes.
  • Work as part of a team to contribute to the continuous improvement of the department, via productivity or efficiency improvements.
  • Adhere to good housekeeping practice, to ensure all equipment and working areas are kept clean and tidy.

Skills required

  • Previous experience as a machine operator, or similar role.
  • Ability to read mechanical detail drawings and understand the machining requirement from these.
  • Skill operating various machine tools.

Desirable Experience

  • Having used a "Kerns Richard SH75" or similar boring machine.
  • Have a counterbalance forklift truck licence.
  • Ability to operate overhead crane to load & unload parts
  • Have knowledge of "Safe Working practice" in a machine shop environment.
