Environmental Sustainability Manager

  • Hourly Rate: £25 - £30
  • Location: Hutton Preston (with site visits)
  • Job Type: Interim (6 months)

We are seeking an Environmental Sustainability (ES) Manager to oversee our environmental impact, resources, and plans. This role is critical in ensuring that our organisation evaluates its current environmental impact and implements sustainable practices for the future, in compliance with local and global environmental regulations.

Day-to-day of the role:

  • Develop and execute strategies to improve sustainability and address environmental concerns.
  • Prepare proposals, budgets, and reports on sustainability for board and stakeholder review.
  • Formulate organisational policies and practices to enhance sustainability across the organisation.
  • Research environmental sustainability issues, evaluate alternatives, and propose actions for management consideration.
  • Assess the viability and success of sustainability initiatives and monitor their effectiveness.
  • Ensure compliance with environmental or governmental regulations through the implementation of an ES programme.
  • Develop sustainability reports, presentations, and employee guidance to facilitate change and compliance.
  • Conduct risk assessments related to sustainability and the environment.
  • Identify funding opportunities and write proposals or grant applications for environmental initiatives.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to prioritise ES initiatives, focusing on emissions reduction, waste management, sustainable sourcing, and community engagement.
  • Integrate ES considerations into all business decisions and practices, providing guidance and support to departments.
  • Monitor and report on ES performance, preparing regular reports for senior management and external stakeholders.

Required Skills & Qualifications:

  • Ideally a Degree in Environmental Science, Sustainability, Environmental Health and Safety, or a related field.
  • Proven experience in ES/HSE risk management, assurance, and environmental management.
  • Track record of developing and executing sustainability strategies.
  • Substantial experience in roles focused on developing and implementing ES programmes.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with cross-functional teams to deliver shared objectives.
  • Skilled in analysing and interpreting complex ES data and presenting it at a strategic level.
  • Held accountable for ES performance and delivery of business objectives, including developing and reporting on ES metrics.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office applications and other software relevant to the field.
  • Full valid UK Driving Licence and access to own vehicle.
