HAYS are delighted to be working in partnership with the council to present an exciting new permanent opportunity for an Regulatory Services Manager.

Your new role
You will lead the council's regulatory functions for environmental health, private sector housing, and building control and to lead the home improvement agency contracts. This role will involve the development of a strategic approach to environmental and private rented sector regulation. You will lead partnership working across the city, and across Oxfordshire, in order to deliver across a number of priorities, leading and promoting innovation, efficiency, and customer focus.
You will also:

  • Develop and support operational managers both within and outside the service, ensuring that targets are delivered.
  • Apply political awareness to leadership and service delivery, use initiative to recognise emerging problems and demonstrate strong leadership skills in influencing and problem-solving.
  • Lead and provide strategic advice and coaching to enforcement staff within the building control function, delegating activities where appropriate.
  • To continue to develop the corporate plan across enforcement, private rented sector, housing adaptations, and street trading.
  • Manage budgets, manage all allocated financial budgets to achieve value for money. Negotiate and influence as appropriate, with internal and external suppliers and customers.

What you'll need to succeed
If you have a background undertaking a similar role, with experience leading and developing front-line teams within the public sector, then this could be an exciting next step for you. You will need to be educated to degree level (or equivalent) in either environmental health or another relevant field or have strategic leadership experience in this area. A proven track record of developing strategies, action plans, and service plans will be important, as will the ability to translate national policy direction, strategic objectives, and best practice, into practice local plans and actions.
