Communications and Engagement Manager

We are seeking a Communications and Engagement Manager to join our Internal and Engagement communications team for a period of up to 12 months. This is a pivotal role within a busy operational team that is at the core of our internal, strategy, and engagement activity. The successful candidate will work alongside another manager and a senior executive, providing expert advice to departments on their internal communications projects and campaigns.

Working arrangements:

  • Based in Exeter HQ, with a requirement to work from the office at least once a week, typically on a Wednesday, plus additional days as needed.
  • 37 hours per week, with consideration for part-time or flexible working arrangements.

Day-to-day of the role:

  • Provide expert internal communications advice and support to various teams across the organisation, ensuring alignment with internal communications principles and forward planning.
  • Collaborate with Directorate change partners to support the delivery of key organisational change projects and initiatives.
  • Contribute to the daily operational running of the internal communications team, including responding to enquiries, monitoring channels, and providing ad hoc advice.
  • Support and manage a variety of internal communications channels such as the intranet, engagement platforms, staff briefings, and town halls.
  • Develop relationships and act as a trusted advisor to senior leaders and managers on internal communications matters.

Required Skills & Qualifications:

  • Proven experience in internal communications or change communications.
  • Demonstrable experience working with internal clients and departments to develop campaigns or deliver initiatives.
  • Strong track record of communications project or campaign management and delivery, meeting challenging targets.
  • Confidence and persuasive skills to advocate for non-obvious courses of action.
  • Strong teamwork skills and a flexible approach to work, with the ability to prioritise and manage multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Creative writing skills and experience with the latest communications techniques.
