About the Role:

Tradewind are currently seeking an SEN Teaching Assistant (SEN TA) to work in an Alternative Provision setting in Sheffield. The successful candidate will support children with diverse and complex needs, including social, emotional, and mental health (SEMH) difficulties, autism spectrum disorders (ASD), and other special educational needs. You will work closely with a supportive team of staff to create a safe and engaging learning environment that promotes the academic and personal development of each student.

This role is perfect for someone who is passionate about providing tailored support to students who may struggle in mainstream education. Experience with Team Teach or equivalent restraint training is essential to ensure that you can manage challenging behaviours safely and effectively.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide 1:1 and group support for students with special educational needs.
  • Assist in the implementation of tailored learning plans and behavioural support strategies.
  • Help manage and de-escalate challenging behaviours in line with Team Teach principles.
  • Support students' social and emotional development to enhance their overall wellbeing.
  • Collaborate with teachers, SENCOs, and other support staff to create a positive learning environment.
  • Maintain accurate records of student progress and behaviour, and report any concerns to senior staff.

Requirements:

  • Team Teach or equivalent restraint training certification (essential).
  • Previous experience working with children with SEN, preferably in an alternative provision or SEMH setting.
  • A genuine passion for supporting children with complex needs.
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to build positive relationships with students and staff.
  • An enhanced DBS on the update service, or willingness to apply for one.
