Resources and Reader Development Support Assistant

This role has a starting salary of £12,137.50 per annum (pro rata to £24,275 FTE) based on an 18-hour working week.

Your normal working pattern will be from 10am to 4pm on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays.

We are excited to be hiring a new Support Assistant to join our fantastic Resources and Reader Development team. The team is based in The Drill Hall, West Street, Dorking, Surrey.

About the Team

The Resources and Reader Development team deliver support to Surrey's 52 libraries with the selection, management, and maintenance of physical and electronic stock. We also provide 4 prison Libraries with stock support. We aim to ensure the efficient and effective use of resources and consistency in stock management and presentation, within the budget available. We deliver support to Surrey's libraries with reader development activities, book groups, author events, along with book stock support that link to the Libraries Connected and Equalities, Diversity, and Inclusion Calendars.

About the Role

We are looking for a friendly and enthusiastic person, to help us promote and deliver a first class library service for the people of Surrey.

Educated to GCSE level or equivalent, you will have good computer skills, with the ability to support library colleagues with MS Office and other IT applications You will also support colleagues in the delivery of Resources and Reader Development projects in libraries across the county, for example refurbishments, standards of presentation and reader development events. In the absence of a senior member of staff, you shall take responsibility for the day-to-day delivery of the service, and the building. You will also support volunteers and volunteer activities. This role may involve some periods of lone working.

We are looking for the following key skills from potential applicants:

  • Knowledge of using Microsoft Office packages
  • Ability to use initiative and work under pressure with accuracy
  • A basic understanding of working in a library
  • Ability to manage time and workload
  • Positive working attitude towards training and development
