SEN Teaching Assistant

About the Role:

We are currently seeking a compassionate and dedicated Special Education Needs (SEN) Teaching Assistant for day-to-day supply and long-term supply roles in primary school settings. This is an excellent opportunity to make a meaningful impact on the lives of pupils with special educational needs, helping them thrive both academically and emotionally.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide one-on-one and small group support to pupils with SEN, adapting teaching methods to suit individual learning styles.
  • Assist classroom teachers in implementing specialised education plans tailored to meet the unique needs of each pupil.
  • Foster a positive and inclusive learning environment where all pupils feel supported, valued, and empowered to succeed.
  • Collaborate closely with SENCOs and other school staff to develop and implement personalised learning goals and interventions.
  • Monitor pupil progress and behaviour, providing feedback to teachers and carers as needed.
  • Assist with the implementation of sensory integration techniques and other therapeutic interventions as required.
  • Work closely with specific pupils, providing personalised learning support.
  • Assist with classroom activities and assignments to ensure pupils' progress.
  • Help pupils build self-confidence and develop important social skills.
  • Maintain regular communication to track and report on pupils' progress.

Requirements:

  • Previous experience working with individuals with special educational needs, preferably within a UK school or healthcare setting.
  • A genuine passion for supporting the academic and social development of pupils with SEN.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build positive relationships with pupils, colleagues, and carers.
  • Patience, empathy, and resilience when faced with challenging situations.
  • Relevant qualifications, such as a Level 3 Teaching Assistant qualification or equivalent, are advantageous but not essential.
  • The ability to adapt to the unique needs of individual pupils.
  • Knowledge of EYFS, KS1 and KS2 curriculum will be beneficial.
