Job Title: Unqualified PE Teacher

Location: 3 Dimensions School, Somerset

Salary: From £26,000 per annum depending on experience

Hours: 40 hours per week, Monday to Friday 8.30am - 4.40pm

Contract: Permanent, Term Time Only

As part of our continued growth, we now have a fantastic opportunity for a Unqualified PE Teacher to join our close-knit team at 3 DimensionsSchool located in Somerset.

About the role

All students can experience Physical & Outdoor Education in a secure and positive environment. Our young people often have low self-esteem and self-worth, they frequently present with social difficulties and experience increased anxiety in social situations. In addition, their life skills, physical exercise, and life experiences are often limited. At 3 Dimensions Hummingbird site, students have the choice of following a sporting pathway that meets their needs and engages them to participate. Our approach encourages students to be resilient and have a go, by designing lessons and considering groups and activities that enable students to access and enjoy sport, and learning outside and beyond the classroom. Therefore, we may involve aspects of Geography and History within the curriculum and take a cross curricular approach where possible. We understand the need and importance to offer a diverse outdoor and physical education curriculum that is creative and adaptive. Therefore, to enable our students to be resilient, confident, happy and ultimately successful individuals, we provide opportunities for them to all participate in half-termly outdoor education activities such as climbing and kayaking.

Main Responsibilities:

Physical and Outdoor Education Teaching

  • Plan, teach and deliver a stimulating, relevant, well-structured Physical and Outdoor Education curriculum for the students of the Hummingbird site that includes Asdan courses (inc. and beyond sport i.e. Geography) and DofE related activities. This will involve working with working with small/medium sized groups in addition to individual students
  • Design inclusive and accessible lessons for all learners. Be adaptive in teaching to meet a wide range of abilities, social, emotional and communication needs to ensure all students are able to participate and reach their full potential
  • Work alongside the Asdan and DofE Tutor/Coordinator and key TA staff
  • Plan and prepare team sport/outdoor activity lessons, sessions and days, including, where relevant, associated activities and excursions i.e. DofE excursions and Careers opportunities
  • Plan and prepare theory lessons for sport/outdoor qualifications that complement the practical lessons and address the curriculum criteria
  • Organise sports and outdoor equipment and facilities and manage any given sports/outdoor budget
  • Resource equipment, materials and outside provision for sport/outdoor lessons and half termly outdoor adventure pursuits i.e. kayaking and rock climbing
  • Ensure that all sport related learning equipment is in good order, organised and available for the delivery of lessons
  • Take a creative teaching approach, which will inspire our students to be curious and want to get involved and participate in sports and learning outdoors
  • Where possible, take students sports interests into account and enable the timetabling of activities such as the use of the gym and swimming
