School Finance Officer

Contract: Temp to perm; commencing September 2024 or ASAP

Hours: 8.30am to 4pm, 5 days per week

Pay: £17 - £24 per hour, experience dependent

We are currently seeking a skilled and dedicated School Finance Officer to join our team at a reputable Secondary School located in Kensington and Chelsea. As the School Finance Officer, you will be responsible for overseeing and managing the financial operations of the school, ensuring compliance with regulations and optimising financial performance. This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced professional to contribute to the financial success of our school and make a meaningful impact on the education of our students.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Financial Planning and Budgeting:
  • Develop and implement effective financial planning strategies to support the school's objectives.

  • Prepare and present the annual budget, taking into account the school's priorities and financial constraints.

  • Monitor budgetary performance throughout the year, providing regular reports to senior management and budget holders.

  • Identify areas for cost savings and efficiency improvements, making recommendations to optimise financial resources.

  1. Financial Management:
  • Maintain accurate financial records and ensure compliance with accounting principles and statutory requirements.

  • Process invoices, purchase orders, and payment requests, ensuring timely and accurate payments.

  • Conduct regular bank reconciliations and oversee cash flow management.

  • Manage payroll processing, including salary calculations and deductions.

  • Coordinate the administration of grants, donations, and other funding sources, ensuring proper utilisation and reporting.

  • Liaise with auditors during financial audits and implement necessary corrective actions.

  1. Financial Reporting and Analysis:
  • Prepare financial statements, reports, and forecasts for internal and external stakeholders.

  • Analyse financial data and provide insights to support decision-making and resource allocation.

  • Monitor and report on key financial indicators and variances against budget.

  • Collaborate with senior management to develop financial strategies and address financial challenges.

  1. Team Leadership and Collaboration:
  • Lead and supervise the finance team, providing guidance, training, and support.

  • Foster a positive and collaborative working environment, promoting teamwork and professional development.

  • Collaborate with other departments and stakeholders to facilitate financial processes and resolve issues.

  • Build and maintain effective relationships with external partners, such as vendors, banks, and auditors.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree in Finance, Accounting, or a related field. Professional certifications (e.g., ACCA, CIMA) are desirable.
  • Proven experience in financial management, preferably in an educational or non-profit setting.
  • Strong knowledge of accounting principles, budgeting, and financial reporting.
  • Proficiency in financial software and MS Office, particularly Excel.
  • Familiarity with financial regulations and compliance requirements.
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment.
  • Demonstrated leadership and supervisory abilities.
