Job Purpose:
As a Group Financial Accountant, you will play a pivotal role in overseeing efficient and effective financial accounting processes. Your work will ensure the integrity of the Group's general ledger, providing robust and well-controlled financial information foundational to all the Group's financial reporting.
Key Responsibilities:
- Financial Integrity & Reporting: Ensure the Group's financial information remains accurate and compliant with accounting standards, supporting month-end, quarterly, and year-end reporting cycles.
- VAT Management: Lead the production of the Group VAT return, coordinating inputs, managing workflows, and working closely with the Head of Tax.
- Team Leadership: Act as a senior member of the Financial Control team, providing coaching and development support to Assistant Accountants and reviewing junior team members' work.
- Process Improvement: Contribute to the Financial Control change agenda, focusing on automation, new working methods, and process simplification across Group/central areas.
- Subsidiary Accounts: Oversee the preparation of subsidiary accounts and related notes for the Group accounts.
- Collaboration: Maintain strong working relationships with internal teams, including Finance Systems Administration, Change, and Business Information teams.
- Continuous Improvement: Drive improvements in Group accounting processes, implementing new systems and supporting ad-hoc projects.
- Documentation & Ad-hoc Tasks: Ensure thorough documentation of all key processes and complete other tasks as required by the line manager.
Knowledge, Experience, Skills, and Attributes:
- Strong understanding of VAT, PAYE, corporation tax, and statutory reporting principles. Anybody with Treasury and Hedging would be advantageous.
- Excellent analytical skills, with the ability to identify variances and unexpected results.
- Experience in a finance environment, particularly in completing complex reconciliations.
- Proven track record of process automation and improvements.
- Detail-oriented, proactive, and highly organized.
- Strong communication and relationship-building skills.
Qualifications:
- ACCA/ACA/CIMA qualified or part-qualified with a clear pathway to qualification within the next 6-12 months.
