About the School: A well-respected school in Balham is seeking a dedicated Learning Support Assistant to join their Special Educational Needs (SEN) unit. The school is committed to providing an inclusive and supportive learning environment for students across EYFS, Key Stage 1, and Key Stage 2. The SEN unit focuses on delivering tailored support to children with a range of special educational needs, ensuring each child receives the individual attention they need to thrive.

The Role: The school is looking for a compassionate and experienced Learning Support Assistant to work within their SEN unit. The successful candidate will support students across EYFS, KS1, and KS2, working closely with the SENCO and class teachers to provide personalised support to students with various SEN requirements.

Learning Support Assistant Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide tailored support to students with special educational needs across EYFS, KS1, and KS2.
  • Assist in the implementation of Individual Education Plans (IEPs) and adapt learning materials to meet the needs of each student.
  • Work one-on-one or in small groups with students to support their learning and development.
  • Help manage classroom behaviour and create a positive and inclusive learning environment.
  • Support the social and emotional development of students, providing guidance and encouragement.
  • Assist with the preparation and organisation of classroom materials and resources.
  • Monitor and record student progress, providing regular feedback to teachers and parents.
  • Collaborate with teachers, SENCO, and other staff to develop and implement effective strategies for student support.
  • Supervise students during breaks, lunchtimes, and other school activities.
  • Participate in school events, trips, and extracurricular activities as required.
  • Ensure the safety and well-being of all students at all times.

Learning Support Assistant Requirements:

  • Previous experience working as a Learning Support Assistant or in a similar role within an SEN setting.
  • Experience working with children in EYFS, Key Stage 1, and Key Stage 2.
  • A genuine passion for supporting children with special educational needs.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build positive relationships with students, staff, and parents.
  • Patience, empathy, and a proactive approach to problem-solving.
  • Relevant qualifications in education or child development are desirable.
  • An Enhanced DBS check will be required for the successful candidate.
